Kansas State quarterback Will Howard hugs coach Chris Klieman after throwing his school recording setting 45th career touchdown pass Saturday, Nov. 11, 2023.

Will Howard directed three touchdown drives in just over one quarter of play as Kansas State opened up a 28-7 first half lead and rolled to their seventh win on the season, 59-25.

Howard became the school’s all-time passing touchdown record holder in the blowout. He tied the record of 44 thrown by Josh Freeman when he found Ben Sinnott on a 14 yard throw while scrambling to keep the play alive.

He broke the record with a two yard pass to Christian Moore with more than 13 minutes still to play in the first half. It was Moore’s first career TD while Howard took over the top spot just one play after the Cats grabbed the ball on a Baylor punt unit miscue.

Howard would finish his day 19 of 29 for 235 yards and three touchdowns. He also ran for one score before being replaced part way through the fourth quarter by Avery Johnson.

D.J. Gidden ran the ball 18 times for 118 yards as K-State’s balance resulted in 451 yards of offense.

K-State would capitalize twice defensively en route to the blowout, once in each half.

After the Bears scored a quick game-tying TD countered by K-State in the first quarter, a sack by Cody Stufflebean knocked the ball loose from Baylor quarterback Blake Shapen. Desmond Purnell recovered and returned it for a score and the Cats built to a fast two touchdown lead in a matter of seconds late in the first quarter.

Defensive back Keenan Garber would return a Shapen throw 45 yards for a touchdown with inside of three minutes to play in the third quarter.

Now 7-3 and 5-2 in Big 12 play, K-State will visit Kansas (7-3, 4-3) next Saturday before closing out the regular season at home against Iowa State the Saturday of Thanksgiving weekend.
