    Update: Wamego man arrested in connection to shooting near St. George

    Authorities have arrested a Wamego man in connection to a Tuesday morning shooting near St. George.

    The Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Office says 35-year-old Matthew Young was arrested and charged with attempted second degree murder. He’s being held in the Pottawatomie County Jail, awaiting bond.

    Sheriff Shane Jager issued a news release stating that deputies were dispatched to the 4700 block of Black Jack Road shortly after 6 a.m. The victim, who has not been identified, was found suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to a Topeka hospital. The extent of injuries are unknown.

    Jager says Young was identified as a peson of interest, with the help of the Riley County Police Department and was located in Manhattan, where he was arrested.

    The investigation is ongoing and detectives are asking anyone with information to contact Captain Tyler Garver at 785-457-3353.

    At least one person was injured following an early morning shooting north of St. George.

    According to the Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Office, emergency crews were called out around 6:15 a.m. to the 4700 block of Blackjack Road where an adult was found with a gunshot wound. That person was transported to a Topeka hospital, but the extent of their injuries is unclear.

    Sheriff Shane Jager says they along with the Kansas Highway Patrol are continuing to investigate. As of 8 a.m. no suspect was in custody.
