    RCPD hosts 50th anniversary kickoff event

    The Riley County Police Department held a 50th anniversary kickoff event Thursday at its headquarters.
    The event celebrated 50 years since the consolidation of the police department in 1974. RCPD Director Brian Peete provided brief remarks about the success of the state’s only consolidated police department.

    Former RCPD Director Brad Schoen also spoke on why consolidation works, honoring former director Alvan Johnson.

    Riley County Law Board Chairperson and city commissioner John Matta expressed his appreciation and thanks to the police department.

    The department plans to do more this year to celebrate its 50 year consolidation.
