Colby, KS – For the first time in program history, Frankfort girls’ basketball can call themselves state champions. As the 6-seed at the 1A-D1 state tournament, the Wildcats upset top-seed Little River 47-41. Ending the Redskins’ undefeated season to take home the state title.

Trailing 29-24 at the half, Coach Brian Ebert’s defense held Little River to just 12 points and 12% shooting in the 2nd half. Leading the Wildcats in double-figures was Sydney Wapp with 15 points and Hattie Gros with 12. Also scoring for Frankfort was Breleigh Ebert with 8, Emma Hardwick had 6, Alexis Dalinghaus with 4 and Ashlyn Dalinghaus had 2 points. Frankfort shot 47% in the game and out-rebounded Little River 33-22.

Frankfort had to beat the top three seeds of the tournament to win it all. Those three teams had a combined record of 67-2 before Frankfort beat them. In the quarterfinals, Frankfort defeated 3-seed St. John 51-34. Then beat 2-seed South Gray 48-31 Friday night.

Saturday night was Frankfort’s 2nd-ever state championship game. The last was in 1981, falling to Oxford.

The championship win will end Frankfort’s season with a record of 23-3.
