Frost Tabbed Big 12 Co-Newcomer of the Week

MANHATTAN, Kan. (K-State) – K-State left-handed pitcher Jacob Frost, who combined with teammate Jackson Wentworth for the program’s ninth no-hitter, was tabbed as the Big 12’s Co-Newcomer of the Week, the Conference office announced Monday.

Frost, a junior transfer from St. Louis, Mo., is the second Wildcat this season to earn a weekly Big 12 award, joining Brady Day, who garnered Player of the Week honors last week.

Frost and Wentworth paired for the program’s second combined no-hitter in its 124-year history and first combined no-hitter since 1991, as the Wildcats shutout Cincinnati 4-0 in Friday’s Big 12 opener. The Cats went on to win the series, marking the first opening Big 12 series victory since 2013.

The lefty retired 21 of the 25 batters he faced in 118 pitches and surrendered just two walks with four strikeouts. He logged a season-high seven inning to pick up his second victory of the season. With Frost on the mound, only three runners reached scoring position in the game.

Friday’s no-hitter was the 20th in Big 12 Conference history, and eighth combined, and was also the first no-hitter for K-State in Big 12 play.
