Riley County’s legal team is about to go through significant changes.
County Counselor Clancy Holeman is slated to retire Jan. 1, but the deputy county counselor position will become vacant much sooner. Shelley Woodard, who began in that role last summer, has announced her resignation, effective April 19.
With that in mind, the Board of County Commissioners on Thursday unanimously approved a plan to hire a deputy counselor as soon as possible. County officials are hoping to fill the position by mid-May.
The search and hiring process is being handled internally.
The pay grade for deputy county counselor calls for a minimum salary of $107,030.21 and a maximum of $171,312.13. The 2024 budget includes a salary of $134,109.60 plus benefits for the deputy county counselor position. The new hire is expected to make a similar salary.
