Riley County commissioners on Monday heard 2025 budget and appropriation requests from several agencies.
Riley County Historical Museum Director Katharine Hensler requested just under $492,000, down from last year’s ask of over $497,000. According to a memo, the capital outlay request is the same as it was for the 2024 budget, and request for contractual services and commodities is down.
Downtown Manhattan director Gina Snyder asked the county to allocate $5,000 to support the entity’s beautification efforts in the business district. That’s the same amount it has requested the last several years.
Jared Tremblay, Flint Hills Metropolitan Planning Organization manager, requested $3,358 from the county for 2025. The MPO receives funding from the state as well as the other entities it serves, including the city of Manhattan. That request is down about $400 from last year’s request. The MPO’s total budget is over $341,000.
In other business, county treasurer Shilo Heger reminded residents that second-half property tax payments are due Friday, May 10. Tax payments must be postmarked by this date, she said, to avoid accruing interest. Payments can be made in person at 110 Courthouse Plaza during business hours or via the drop box in front of the building or online at rileycountytreasurer.us. Payments can also be made by phone or mail.
