In a near four hour game, Wamego softball moves on to the 4A semifinals after a 17 inning, 2-1 win over Clearwater in Salina. Delivering a pure spectacle of a lifetime on the mound for Wamego was junior Peyton Hardenburger. She started the game and she finished the game. 17 innings, 30 strikeouts and 199 pitches from the Tennessee commit.

Scoreless through the first 13 innings, each team scored one run in the 14th. Kyra Olberding had the game winning, walk-off, hit in the bottom of the 17th to win the game.

Unfortunately, Wamego will not be playing Rock Creek in Friday’s semifinals. The Mustang lost to Eudora in a close 2-1 contest. That will wrap Rock Creek’s phenominal season at a record of 19-6.

Wamego will face 3-seed Eudora in the semifinals Friday at 1:00 p.m. in Salina. Winner will play either Andale or Circle in the state title game Friday at 5:00. Wamego is looking for back-to-back state titles.

At 4A state baseball in Salina, the 1-seed Rock Creek Mustangs are heading to the semifinals after a 5-3 win over Tonganoxie. Improving Rock Creek’s record season to 26-1. Rock Creek plays Paola Friday at 11 a.m. in the semifinals. Winner plays either Pratt or Abilene for the state title at 5:45. The Mustangs are looking for its first state title since 2021 and third all-time.
