In a report from ESPN’s Pete Thamel, the Big 12 Conference is looking to sell its naming rights to a title sponsor that could generate the conference millions of dollars in revenue.
This commercial sponsor would potentially take the word “Big” out of the conference name and instead of go by the sponsor’s name. Sports Illustrated has further reported that the conference is looking at Allstate and other companies as a potential sponsor.
According to sources close to the story, the conference has been holding discussions on this potential idea for months and a decision could be coming in the near future. A deal like this could generate millions for member schools.
The Big 12 delved out over $470 million in revenue to member schools last year and a deal like this could generate even more money for the conference that is looking to move on into a new era following the departure of Texas and Oklahoma to the SEC and the additions of Utah, Arizona, Arizona State and the re-entry of Colorado to the conference.
