Dymax expected to stay in Wamego despite Caterpillar leaving

By AJ Shaw on June 17, 2024 Local News, Pottawatomie County, Wamego
Following the news that Caterpillar would be leaving Wamego, owners of the manufacturing company Dymax announced late Monday that they will be staying in Wamego.
President and CEO Scott Balderson says that the reason the company went public with the news is due to some confusion going around in the community.
“There were a lot of conflicting reports going around,” he said. “So we decided to put out a press release to let people know that we still have a growth plan in the next ten years as well as a footprint to create more jobs.”
He said that while the company is quite proud of its global reach, it’s heart still remains in the city and the surrounding region and they will look forward to many more years serving and growing within the community.
Balderson also made it clear that Dymax is an independent operation and is not affiliated with Caterpillar.
“We never had direct affiliation with Caterpillar,” he said. “We do still work a lot with Caterpillar products.”
Dymax currently employs 70 people at their current location in Wamego. Balderson said that the company is not looking to expand from their current space as it is nearly 40,000 square feet.
Caterpillar announced on Jun. 6 that they will be suspending operations in Wamego in 2025.
