Pottawatomie County will wait to sign road agreement for quarry

The Pottawatomie County Commission will hold off on a road agreement with a quarry, after concerns were raised by citizens Monday regarding the 10 cents per ton of aggregate sold that Mid-States Materials would pay to the county.
That funding would be used for maintenance of the designated haul route from the quarry and for Wheaton Road. Citizens were concerned the agreed upon sum does not account for inflation. Commissioner Greg Riat says he’s fielded similar concerns, and noted more time was needed to explore other ways the agreement could be written to account for inflation.

County Administrator Chad Kinsley agreed that renegotiating could be incorporated into the agreement, but says that should involve county counselor John Watt, who was absent from Monday’s meeting.

Weixelman signaled he would sign the agreement but Riat stood firm with his request to wait.

Since Dee McKee was absent, there was no tie breaking vote, so the issue will be looked at again in two weeks.
