Fireworks filled the 4th of July night sky on Thursday in Wamego, a part of the world-famous Boomtown show, one of the nation’s top fireworks attractions.
Thousands flooded into Boomtown packing the field next to the baseball diamonds to the point that people who couldn’t get in pulled to the side of Highway 24 to catch the spectacle.
Corey Reeves is one of Boomtown’s team members and spoke more about his time with Boomtown.
“I’ve been with the pyrotechnic team since 2014,” he said. “I joined when we started having B104.7 accompany the show with its soundtrack which gives all people wherever they sit a great experience as they watch the show.”
Reeves spoke about some of the event’s top displays including Purple Rain.
“That’s always a big hit with the K-Staters,” he said. “It actually took 5 years for us to find purple fireworks and once we did we had to use different chemicals just to get the display we wanted.”
Another popular display is the Oz display which fits in with Wamego.
The event also saw a musical performance from the 1st Infantry Division band performing a number of classic hits including Chicago’s “25 or 6 to 4.”
The Boomtown celebration is an all-day celebration with the town’s carnival, parade and of course firework display.
