The Manhattan Fire Department is looking to make some major and much needed upgrades to its main facility within the next year.
On Wednesday, deputy fire chief Ryan Almes told KMAN that the main building has not been updated since the 1980s, and while the department had been able to use the building well and delay necessary upgrades, it is now time to move forward.
“We’ve put some things off for quite a while,” he said. “We’ve been talking about our lease for about 10 years now, and we didn’t know for a while if we were going to move or not.”
