As one major construction project is making strides, another is about to begin.

Manhattan city officials said starting Aug. 26 Kimball Avenue will be reopened to east-west traffic at the Denison Avenue intersection, and there “should be” no further Kimball closures.

However, shipping delays related to the new traffic signal for the intersection will prevent Denison from reopening to left turns. Only “right-in” and “right-out” southbound traffic will be allowed initially for safety reasons and through traffic on Kimball will not stop.

Denison will remain closed south of Kimball through summer 2025. It’s currently closed from Kimball to the National Bio and Agro-Defense Facility entrance, but the closure will begin to move south along Denison as work proceeds away from the Kimball intersection.

Traffic south of the closure will need to continue using the detour from Claflin Road to College Avenue to access Kimball west of Denison.

Meanwhile, starting Wednesday, Anderson Avenue from Seth Child Road/Kansas Highway 113 to Wreath Avenue will be repaired and resurfaced by Ebert Construction.

This project is expected to last through the fall.

There is no detour, and one-lane traffic will be maintained in both directions at all times. Drivers should expect some disruptions as various drive entrances are closed for repairs. Access to local businesses will be maintained throughout the project.

Also, Shilling Construction is continuing milling operations this week on Anderson and Bluemont avenues from Harris Avenue to 11th Street. The next two weeks will see concrete repairs on Anderson and Bluemont, followed by paving and pavement marking.

Work on this is expected to last through Aug. 16.

Anderson and Bluemont are not closed during the work, but there are shifting lane closures throughout the work zone, so motorists are encouraged to watch signs carefully.
