UPDATE #2 (6:17 AM TUESDAY) – The Kansas Highway Patrol is reporting that 72-year-old Robert Cleveland of Junction City was killed in the accident on Monday.
The accident occurred when Cleveland’s 1996 Toyota Tacoma traveling westbound on I-70 blew its front driver side tire and veered into the Eastbound lane striking a 2023 Ford Bronco Sport head-on.
The driver of the Bronco, 45-year-old Robert George of Fowler, Colorado and 48-year-old passenger Crystal Cloninger of Canon City, Colorado were both injured in the accident. George was transported to Stormont Vail in Topeka for suspected serious injuries and Cloninger was transported to Stormont Vail in Junction City for suspected serious injuries.
UPDATE #1 (6:45 PM MONDAY) – One was killed on Monday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash in a construction zone in Geary County.
The Geary County Sheriff’s Office reported the accident occurred just before 3:30 p.m. on I-70 near Junction City near the Wal-Mart/Cracker Barrel exit that caused a standstill for nearly two hours.
Sheriff’s deputies reported that one fatality occurred from the accident which was head-on. The details on the accident are still unfolding and an investigation continues at this time.
It’s the second time in the last week an accident has occurred on I-70 leading to the a fatality.
