Gov. Laura Kelly announced Wednesday that she had granted clemency to seven individuals who were incarcerated which included a Manhattan man who was serving a prison sentence for a drug charge.
Deshaun Durham had been serving a 92-month prison sentence for possession with intent to distribute 2.4 pounds of cannabis.
Even though cannabis is illegal in Kansas, first time offenders such as Durham typically get probation for such an offense which is why Durham’s sentencing was so surprising. Durham was sentenced to prison in Jun. 2021 and had spent the last three years in the Hutchinson Correctional Facility.
