A Wamego man is dead following an accident on Wednesday afternoon on K-99 south of Wamego in Wabaunsee County.
The accident occurred just after 1:30 p.m. when a 2009 Chevy Silverado driven by Damon Welsh, 20, of Manhattan was traveling southbound on K-99 and for an unknown reason crossed the center line and struck a 2010 Honda CR-V driven by John Long, 69, of Wamego. Both vehicles were disabled in the East ditch on K-99.
Welsh was transported by EMS to Stormont Vail for a suspected serious injury. His further status at this time is currently unknown. Long was taken to the Wamego Health Center where he was pronounced dead at approximately 3 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon.
