Kansas senator Roger Marshall released a statement on Tuesday in regards to the recent announcement by Tyson Foods that they’d be closing down their plant in Emporia.

In the statement, Marshall said he’s been in contact with leaders in the city and says the news “breaks his heart.” He added that the facility is one of the larger employers in the region and the news was “devastating for the families and the community, especially at Christmas time.”

Marshall concluded his statement saying that he was committed to doing everything possible to help find the individuals affected by the closure good jobs. Tyson announced on Monday that it would be closing its plant in Feb. 2025. It currently employs over 800 workers.
