    Semi fire on I-70 near Wabaunsee County leads to traffic being restricted

    A fire that engulfed a semitrailer restricted traffic on I-70 just west of Topeka on Wednesday morning.

    The fire was reported just prior to 5:30 a.m. this morning on westbound I-70 about 2 miles west of the Shawnee-Wabaunsee County line.

    The semi was reported to be fully engulfed in flames. Initial reports from the scene indicated the trailer was carrying ammunition. Traffic was impeded due to crews responding to scene.

    A fire that engulfed a semitrailer has restricted traffic on I-70 just west of Topeka on Wednesday.

    The semi was reported to be fully engulfed in flames. Initial reports from the scene indicated the trailer was carrying ammunition. Traffic was impeded due to crews responding to scene.

    WIBW in Topeka is reporting that traffic remained backed up on westbound I-70 until around 9 a.m. Wednesday and was being diverted at the S.W. Carlson Road exit, which was about two miles east of where the fire occurred. Smoke continued to pour out of the semi as of 9:38 a.m. Wednesday.

    There were no immediate reports of injuries.
