Even with the election more than a year away, the first person to announce their candidacy for Governor of Kansas was made on Wednesday.
Secretary of State Scott Schwab has decided to throw his hat in the ring for the Republican nomination for Governor. Schwab, who was first elected to the position in 2018 and then re-elected in 2022, has been in Kansas politics since first being elected to the State Senate in 2002.
Schwab grew up in Great Bend and currently resides in Overland Park with his wife, Michele, and their children. He graduated from Fort Hays State University.
Governor Laura Kelly is ineligible to seek a third term due to term limits. The Governor was re-elected in 2022 with 49% of the vote when she defeated former Attorney General Derek Schmidt.
