Manhattan High girls’ basketball ran into a buzzsaw in the Mid-America Classic championship game, falling to Olathe South 56-25 on Saturday.

The Indians (8-4) finished in second place in its first championship game berth since 2018. Junior Kat Ball, who scored nine points, was named to the All-Tournament team.

“I thought the girls did a good job, we competed really well (during the tournament),” head coach Scott Mall said. “We weren’t flawless in the first two rounds, but the girls just competed and competed, even when things didn’t go our way, we just made plays and got wins.”

Olathe South (8-4) dominated the tournament from start to finish, outscoring opponents by 21 and 30 before besting Manhattan by 31. The Falcons were led by sophomore Eve Long who scored 19 points with 13 rebounds on 7-11 shooting.
