    By Emma Loura

Manhattan-Ogden school district officials said they are close to a cost-sharing agreement with the Riley County Police Department for school resource officers.

At last week’s school board meeting, assistant superintendent Nathan Downs said after multiple meetings and negotiations, the RCPD is offering the district a more affordable price for officers, though he said he didn’t yet have specific numbers to share.

He said an SRO costs about $103,600 per officer for a full academic year, including only salary and benefits. Two SROs have been assigned at Manhattan High School for the past several years.
