Crash on I-70 in Geary County Sends Two to the Hospital

A three-vehicle crash along I-70 near the Junction City limits sent two Colorado residents to the hospital Friday afternoon, according to a Kansas Highway Patrol report.

The crash occurred at approximately 3:17 p.m. on June 13, 2025, in the westbound lanes of I-70 at mile marker 297.9. Authorities say a 2004 Ford F-350 driven by 81-year-old Richard Hill of Gypsum, Colorado, rear-ended a 2011 Nissan Frontier while driving through a construction zone. The impact caused the Nissan to spin into the eastbound lanes, where it collided with a 2025 Ford E-450 U-Haul truck.

The driver of the Nissan, 67-year-old John Boucher of Larkspur, Colorado, and his 64-year-old passenger, Janet Boucher, were both transported to Stormont Vail Health Flint Hills Campus with complaints of pain. All other vehicle occupants, including Hill and his wife Catherine, and three individuals in the U-Haul, were reportedly uninjured.

The U-Haul truck, operated by 28-year-old Ian Wuertz of St. Louis, Missouri, was towing a 2015 Subaru at the time of the collision. The vehicle and trailer were removed from the scene by TLC Mobile Services.
