    Victim in child sex crimes trial takes the stand

    The victim in a child sex crimes trial said she wasn’t taken seriously when she told her caregivers of repeated sexual abuse by a man who was living with her family.

    The girl, now 17, testified Monday in Riley County District Court about the incidents alleged in the case.

    Michael Steere, 28, of Manhattan was given a bond of $1 million and is charged with rape of a child under 14 years old, two counts of aggravated indecent liberties with a child by lewd fondling of a child under 14 years old, aggravated indecent liberties with a child by lewd fondling of a child between 14 and 16 years old, and two counts of aggravated indecent liberties with a child by having sexual intercourse with a child between 14 and 16 years old. All charges involve the same victim.
