Claire’s, a popular mall boutique for teens and young women, specializing in fashion accessories and ear piercings, will close nearly 300 stores nationwide as part of its ongoing bankruptcy process.
That includes the store inside Manhattan Town Center. The company will also close stores in Dodge City, Emporia, Garden City, Leawood, Pittsburg, and Wichita.
Claire’s Holdings LLC announced on Aug. 20 it had sold its North American business to private equity firm Ames Watson for $104 million. In a court filing on Monday, the company listed more than 290 stores it planned to close. Claire’s will shutter 235 Claire’s locations in the U.S. and 56 Icing stores. The remaining 830 stores are not expected to close immediately.
