TA portion of Manhattan High School was evacuated Friday morning after concerns over a chemical stored in a chemistry storage area.
Members of the Manhattan Fire Department Hazmat team were called out to Manhattan High School shortly after 9 a.m. Friday to investigate.
In an alert sent through the high school’s ParentSquare communciation system, principal Michael Dorst said that the fire department was concerned the chemical in question had crystalized and could be shock sensitive. As a result, the third flood of the E hall and east end of the main level E hall had to be evacuated, with students sent to other parts of the building.
Deputy Fire Chief Ryan Almes confirmed to KMAN and The Mercury that there was no danger to students or staff and that the situation was under control.
