Fall Apple Day canceled because of shutdown

By KMAN Staff on October 14, 2025 Fort Riley, Local News

The annual Fall Apple Day Festival, set for this weekend at Fort Riley, was canceled amid the federal government shutdown.

Apple Day is a longstanding tradition for the soldiers and families of the Big Red One, or the 1st Infantry Division. This would have been the 39th year for the event, which featured family activities, historical re-enactors, food, music and apple pie.

“Due to a lapse in federal funding, employees are on furlough,” event organizers said in a statement. “Thus, we are unable to monitor or respond to comments or messages until the furlough has ended.”
