A Manhattan woman was seriously injured early Wednesday after being struck by a truck while crossing the street in a marked crosswalk, according to police.

Officers responded to the intersection of 11th Street and Moro Street at approximately 12:05 a.m. on Oct. 9, where they found Madison Asbury, 19, had been hit by a 2019 Ford F-350. The truck was driven by Michael Smith, 25, also of Manhattan.

Asbury was transported to Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka with serious injuries.

Smith fled the scene but was located and arrested about 30 minutes later in the 1000 block of Seth Child Road. He was booked into the Riley County Jail on charges of aggravated battery and failure to stop at an accident. His bond was set at $12,000, and he remains confined as of Thursday.
