K-State’s offensive revival, Jackson’s record night spoiled by late collapse at Utah

Kansas State running back Joe Jackson breaks into the open field during his record-setting performance against Utah on Saturday in Salt Lake City. Jackson rushed for 293 yards and four touchdowns in the Wildcats’ 51–47 loss.

Kansas State football experienced an offensive revival on Saturday, but it still unraveled into one of the season’s most painful defeats. Despite rolling to a program-high rushing total and leading by double digits twice in the second half, the Wildcats watched No. 12 Utah erase its second 10-point deficit in the final minutes, falling 51–47 in a stunning road collapse.

“Heartbroken for the kids and for the loss, but it’s one of the greatest efforts I’ve been a part of, and it’s hard to say this because we lost the game,” an emotional head coach Chris Klieman said. “…But I’m going to stand up here with friggin’ pride and say we battled our ass off against a really good team. I’m crushed we lost the football game.”

The loss drops K-State to 5–6 and wipes away its best offensive performance of the year. The Wildcats piled up explosive plays — including three touchdowns and a program-record 293 yards from sophomore Joe Jackson — but couldn’t close out the program’s first-ever win in the state of Utah.
