Kansas State men’s basketball had its first real look at a conference win on Saturday afternoon, but one costly stretch proved too much to overcome in an 87–84 loss at Arizona State at Desert Financial Arena.

After opening Big 12 play against No. 10 BYU and No. 1 Arizona, the Wildcats had chances to steady themselves in Tempe. Instead, a five-minute field goal drought in the second half flipped the game and sent K-State to an 0–3 start in conference play for the first time since 2021-22.

“You want your guys competing at the highest level on every possession, and when we don’t, we don’t have a large enough margin for error,” head coach Jerome Tang said. “Our margin for error is very small, and we need all of our guys playing well.”
