Riley County officials raised concerns Thursday about how they’ll go about enforcing a new law regarding bathroom use in all government buildings.
The Kansas House on Wednesday joined the Senate to override Gov. Laura Kelly’s veto of House Substitute for Senate Bill 244, which requires people visiting government buildings to use the bathroom of their biological sex at birth.
Language in the bill requires that any multiple-occupancy private space, such as a restroom, locker room, changing room or shower room must be labeled for one sex. It also requires governing bodies or chief administrative officers, if no governing body exists, to take “every reasonable step” to ensure an individual does not enter a multiple-occupancy private space designated for individuals of the opposite sex.
