There will be no more Taco Tuesdays in Manhattan.
Taco John’s, which operated at 214 Leavenworth Street since June 2014, officially closed for good on Monday. The restaurant’s franchise owner Kimberly Jager recently decided to sell the business, an employee told The Mercury. The employee said there are plans for a new restaurant to take over the space, though a timeline has not been determined.
A March 2021 fire at the location caused by spontaneous combustion of oil on towels resulted in about $600,000 in damages. The restaurant was closed for a little over a year and reopened in April 2022 after renovations to the building’s interior.
Taco John’s operates approximately 350 locations across more than 20 states. The closest locations for Manhattan residents are now Topeka, Emporia and Concordia.
