A small aircraft sustained damage Friday afternoon during a landing at Manhattan Regional Airport, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.
The incident occurred at approximately 1:58 p.m. May 1st, 2026, at the airport located at 5500 Skyward Drive. Investigators said a 1965 Champion aircraft had completed its landing and was slowing on the runway when a side wind caught the tail of the aircraft, causing it to become unstable and the left wing to strike the runway.
The pilot, identified as 36-year-old Stephen P. Murtha of St. Marys, was not injured.
