USDA undersecretary Luke Lindberg said Wednesday that Kansas farmers have an important role in democracy and fighting global hunger.
Lindberg, undersecretary for trade and foreign agricultural affairs, spoke during a press conference at the Kansas Wheat Innovation Center in Manhattan.
The Food for Peace program, which uses surplus grains and commodities to provide emergency food assistance to other countries was conceived in Kansas in 1954, and it is a historic legacy component of the state.
