Wamego boys’ golf captured its fourth straight Class 4A state championship Wednesday at Hesston Golf Course, finishing with a two-day team score of 578 to top Bishop Miege by 20 strokes.
Since 1980, when KSHSAA switched to full team championships, it is the fifth instance of four straight boys’ golf state titles across all classifications in Kansas. Wamego is the only non-private school in that span to accomplish the feat. Currently, Sacred Heart has won 10 straight 2A state titles, dating back to 2015.
Senior Regan Kueker led the Red Raiders with an individual state title, carding back-to-back rounds of 69 to finish 4-under par for the tournament. Kueker defeated defending champion Ethan Small of Independence in a two-hole playoff after sinking a 5-foot birdie putt on the second playoff hole.
