An initial conversation on the 2027 budget Thursday led to the Riley County Commission reducing Pawnee Mental Health Services’ requested funding increase by about two thirds.
The commissioners’ move represents a starting point rather than a completed action since no votes took place Thursday.
Last month, Pawnee asked for $654,048 in county funds for 2027 operations, an increase of $304,048, or 87%, from 2026’s appropriation of $350,000.
