A week after Brian Peete announced his upcoming resignation from the Riley County Police Department, the Riley County law enforcement agency board on Tuesday voted to approve an amendment to his contract allowing for a departure at the end of the year.
Additionally, the amended document allows for Peete to establish a residency in Topeka, “at his request and should he so choose,” for the remainder of his time at the department, provided he continues to fulfill of his obligations as director.
Peete, 50, told The Mercury on Thursday he is resigning as director of the department effective Dec. 31. He didn’t give a specific reason for his decision, but the change in plan comes just six months after the board agreed to a contract extension in January that would end have ended Dec. 30, 2027.
