Two Wichita juveniles were injured late Tuesday night after a vehicle fleeing law enforcement crashed in Dickinson County, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred at approximately 11:49 p.m. June 2 on southbound K-15 near mile marker 159.8, just north of 1100 Avenue and Gulf Road. Investigators said a 2022 Mazda CX-30 was fleeing the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office when the driver attempted to make a right turn onto 1100 Avenue. The vehicle failed to complete the turn, left the roadway and struck a culvert before coming to rest in a field.

The driver, identified as 16-year-old Robert J. Cooper of Wichita, sustained suspected minor injuries and was transported to Memorial Health System in Abilene. The passenger, a 14-year-old male from Wichita, also suffered suspected minor injuries and was transported to the same hospital.

The crash report indicates both juveniles were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.
