esidents across northeast Kansas could see multiple rounds of thunderstorms over the next several days, with the greatest potential for severe weather arriving Wednesday afternoon and evening, according to the National Weather Service in Topeka.
Forecasters say there is a chance for showers and thunderstorms Monday night, followed by slightly warmer conditions Tuesday with highs ranging from 80 to 85 degrees. By Wednesday, temperatures are expected to climb into the low to upper 90s, with highs between 92 and 99 degrees across the region.
The weather service is highlighting Wednesday as the next day with severe weather potential. Large hail, damaging winds and locally heavy rainfall are the primary concerns, although a tornado or two cannot be ruled out. Storms are expected to develop during the afternoon and evening hours.
While the highest risk for severe weather currently appears to be farther east into Missouri, forecasters say much of northeast and east-central Kansas remains at risk for severe storms. Areas near Manhattan fall within a marginal to slight risk area on the latest outlook.
The National Weather Service notes confidence in the forecast remains moderate because storm coverage in central Kansas is still uncertain. However, any storms that do develop could become severe.
