A Rock Creek High School teacher will keep his teaching license despite admitting to inappropriate behavior with a student at a previous school, after the Kansas State Board of Education voted 8-0 in his favor on July 14.
RCHS hired Mitchell Lahr as a math teacher in 2023 and he is also an assistant forensics coach. Lahr was a teacher with the Shawnee Mission School District during the 2022-2023 school year, during which he later admitted he “engaged in a pattern of inappropriate and overly personal and intimate conduct toward or focus on a student.”
According to documents from the board’s professional practices commission shared with state school board members, Lahr, whose name was redacted, acknowledged that he engaged in inappropriate conduct with a student during his first year of teaching after receiving his license in 2022.
