Five family members, including four children, were found dead Tuesday morning following a shooting at a Winfield home. The suspected gunman also died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to the Kansas Bureau of Investigation.
Winfield police were called around 8:50 a.m. to a home in the 400 block of West Ninth Avenue. Police said 53-year-old Ronald Williams Sr. called dispatch and reported he had shot his family and intended to take his own life.
When officers arrived, they heard a single gunshot and established a perimeter. Officers entered the residence shortly before 11 a.m. and found six people with gunshot wounds. All six were pronounced dead at the scene.
The KBI identified the victims as 44-year-old Kelly L. George and four children, ranging in age from 3 to 9.
Investigators believe Williams was responsible for the deaths of George and the four children before calling 911. The KBI said Williams died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound shortly after law enforcement arrived.
The KBI and Winfield Police Department continue to investigate. No additional information is expected to be released at this time.
