Leadership of the 1st Infantry Division will change hands this week after Fort Riley hosts a change of command ceremony, officials announced Monday.

Brig. Gen. Kevin Williams will take command of the Big Red One from Maj. Gen. Monté Rone at 9 a.m. on Friday. Lt. Gen. Kevin Admiral, III Armored Corps, will preside over the ceremony.

Rone took over command of the division in June 2024.

“The change of command ceremony is a longstanding military tradition that demonstrates the formal transfer of authority and responsibility from one commanding officer to another,” Army officials said in their announcement. “The colors flown at every ceremony represent the history, tradition and accomplishments of a unit. The passing of the colors signifies a new chapter for the Big Red One in its long history of service to the nation.”
