An 80-year-old Solomon woman was killed Wednesday evening after being struck by a vehicle while retrieving mail along Solomon Road in Dickinson County.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, the crash occurred just before 8 p.m. near Solomon Road and 2700 Avenue.

The crash report states Katherine R. Worthen, 80, of Solomon, had parked her 2024 Nissan in the northbound lane, facing south, and exited the vehicle to retrieve mail from a mailbox.

A northbound 2013 Honda Civic, driven by Andrea D. Macoubrie, 47, of Clay Center, reportedly swerved to the right and struck the parked Nissan and Worthen before coming to rest in the east ditch.

Worthen sustained fatal injuries. Macoubrie was transported to Memorial Health System with a suspected minor injury.

A passenger in the Nissan, Mary J. Miles, 74, of Abilene, was not injured.

The crash report indicates Macoubrie and Miles were wearing seat belts.
