Manhattan city commissioners on Tuesday will vote on a proposed continuation and expansion of the downtown business improvement district (BID) and continuation of the Aggieville BID.
The Aggieville and Downtown BIDs were created in 1981 to provide a mechanism for the commercial areas to raise funds for their respective revitalization programs. Fees are collected from businesses within each district and retained by the city for distribution to the Aggieville Business Association and Downtown Manhattan Inc.
These revenues are expended by the organizations per a budget that is recommended on an annual basis by each BID advisory board.
