The RCPD is investigating two separate theft cases reported Monday in Manhattan involving elderly women who lost a combined total of more than $12,000.

According to the RCPD, officers filed a report for theft by deception just after 5 p.m. in the 1100 block of Westloop Place.

A 79-year-old woman was listed as the victim after an unknown suspect reportedly scammed her into purchasing gift cards at multiple stores. The total estimated loss is approximately $3,000.

In a separate incident, officers filed a report for forgery and theft just after 10:30 a.m. in the 1500 block of Westwind Drive.

An 81-year-old woman was listed as the victim after an unknown suspect reportedly forged checks against her account, resulting in an estimated loss of $9,325.

The combined estimated loss from both cases is $12,325.

Anyone with information about either incident is encouraged to contact the RCPD or Manhattan Riley County Crime Stoppers. Anonymous tips submitted through Crime Stoppers could qualify for a cash reward of up to $1,000.
