City commission to consider dissolving planning board

0
By KMAN Staff on November 6, 2026 Local News, Manhattan

Tuesday’s work session will feature consideration by Manhattan city commissioners on dissolving the current iteration of the Manhattan Urban Area Planning Board.

Talks will focus on whether commissioners wish to end the 1976 interlocal agreement that created the board. City officials said Manhattan’s city boundaries growing further into Pottawatomie County present an issue because the board has no Pott County representation.

The seven-member board contains three members appointed by the city, three by Riley County, and the seventh seat alternates between the city or county. That means that every two years a majority of the city’s planning board members are appointed by the county.
