Manhattan voters on Election Day approved a 0.5% citywide sales tax increase dedicated to funding street maintenance over the next 10 years.
The votes totaled 8,291 in favor and 7,279 against, according to unofficial final results.
City officials estimate the sales tax increase will generate $8 million annually compared to the $5 million generated annually with the current 0.2% street maintenance sales tax, which expires March 31, 2027.
