Strong to severe thunderstorms could bring damaging winds, heavy rainfall and a few tornadoes to northeast and east-central Kansas Monday afternoon and evening.

Strong to severe thunderstorms could bring damaging winds, heavy rainfall and a few tornadoes to northeast Kansas Monday afternoon and evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Topeka, showers and isolated thunderstorms will move across the region Monday morning, with wind gusts up to 50 mph possible.

More widespread thunderstorms are expected to develop in central Kansas late Monday afternoon before moving northeast through the evening. Damaging winds and a few tornadoes are the primary concerns.

Manhattan and much of northeast Kansas are under a slight risk, or Level 2 of 5, for severe weather.

Forecasters say the strongest storms are expected late Monday afternoon and evening, with severe weather potential diminishing later in the night.
