Christmas cookies are a holiday tradition for many.

For St. Thomas More Church, the 31st annual Cookie Carousel was a return to its more traditional format, or at least a version of it, while adhering to COVID protocols. After adjusting the format last year to a drive thru distribution with free cookies for participants, this year the in-person aspect returned with the event serving as a fundraiser for Be Able, Catholic Charities, Konza Table and Shepherd’s Crossing.

Therese Adams is the President of the St. Thomas More Ladies, who help to put on the event.

The featured cookie this year was the Oreo Truffle, which Adams and event chair Rebecca Gould both got to sample…

Gould adds that the event is not possible without contributions from the many volunteers and parishioners who donate their time and efforts to make the cookie sales possible.

A number of vendors were also on hand and children who stopped by got to visit with Santa Claus and his elves. The event raises about $6,000 per year for various charitable efforts in the community.

In addition to the Cookie Carousel, St. Thomas More Church is also preparing for the 10th annual Manhattan Community Christmas Dinner, which will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Christmas Day. Free meals will be distributed in a drive through format, similar to last year’s event.
