A federal judge sided with a lawsuit filed by Kansas attorney general Kris Kobach that strikes down a rule from the Biden administration that provides Obamacare benefits to illegal immigrants who signed up under the DACA program. Riley County Police are investigating a case of motor vehicle burglary that occurred in the overnight hours on Wednesday in the 1600 block of Beechwood Terrace. Officers filed the report just after 7 a.m. when a 24-year-old man reported his vehicle was broken into and military gear was stolen. The total loss is estimated at $2367. Anyone with information in the case is encouraged to contact Crime Stoppers.
A local resident was arrested for committing forgery on Wednesday evening. Eugenio Damian, 40, was arrested just prior to 10 p.m. at the Countryside Parks mobile home parks in Manhattan on charges of interference with law enforcement by making a false statement, forgery and making false information. Damian was arrested and booked into RCJ on a bond of $16,000. He remains confined at the time of this report.

A Manhattan man will serve four years in prison after his conviction for child sex crimes. Riley County District Court Judge Grant Bannister on Monday sentenced 29-year-old Tristian Gooden-Heit for 15 counts of sexual exploitation of a child and single counts of a computer crime and interference with law enforcement by tampering with evidence. Longtime K-State coach Dana Dimel passed away on Tuesday, according to his family. He was 62. Dimel spent 20 years on the coaching staff at K-State under head coach Bill Snyder. He began his coaching career as a graduate assistant in 1987 following three seasons as an offensive linemen from 1984-86 with the Wildcats where he was an All-American. He then moved to offensive line coach in 1989. Most recently, Dimel was an senior offensive assistant at Illinois under head coach Bret Bielema after spending the previous six seasons as the head coach at UTEP. After leaving K-State in the…
Kansas senator Roger Marshall released a statement on Tuesday in regards to the recent announcement by Tyson Foods that they’d be closing down their plant in Emporia. The state of Kansas saw a record turnout for last month’s general election according to state election officials earlier this week. The Kansas State Board of Canvassers met Monday to certify the results of the Nov. 5 election that saw President-elect Donald Trump carry the state’s 6 electoral votes with ease over Vice President Kamala Harris by 16 points, the third consecutive time he’s carried the state. RCPD filed a report of criminal destruction of property and theft in the 500 block of Pillsbury Drive on Monday at approximately 12:30 PM. Officers listed Habitat for Humanity as the victim when it was reported the lock on a storage trailer was broken and tools were stolen from the trailer. The Riley County Police Department is investigating two shootings that occurred on Saturday and Sunday that officers believe are linked to one another. The shootings led to four individuals being wounded according to police. The first shooting occurred on Saturday evening just before 8 p.m. in the 2000 block of College Heights Road. Officers responded to the scene to find a 23-year-old woman suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to Ascension Via Christi for what officers are describing as non-life-threatening injuries.
